Gold Standard 100% Whey is possibly the most well-known supplement on the market, but how does it rank when stacked against others of its kind? Gold Standard 100% Whey comprises three different forms of whey protein: whey protein isolate, whey protein concentrate, and whey peptides.
It also contains amino acids (enzymes to help break down the protein), including three of the most valuable BCAAs - Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine, the presence of which support further protein synthesis, improve intra-training energy levels (through metabolic action) and assist with recovery.
In addition, it also boasts 5g per serve of glutamine, which has been clinically shown to increase nitrogen uptake within the anabolic process and provide idyllic conditions for lean muscle hypertrophy.
Each serving provides 24 grams of rapidly-digesting whey protein with low levels of fat, lactose and gluten. There's no doubt this is the standard by which all other proteins are measured.
- 100% pure Whey Protein Isolates (WPI).
- More than 5 Grams of Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs) Leucine, Isoleucine & Valine in Each Serving.
- Over 4 Grams of Glutamine & Glutaminc Acid in Each Serving.
- Whey Protein Micro-fractions form Whey Protein Isolates & Ultra-Filtered Whey Protein Concentrate.
Gold Standard Whey comes in a variety of flavours including the most common flavours - vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and banana - as well as the more novel flavours such as: rocky road, cookies and cream, chocolate peanut better and coffee. As of 2014, there are 21 flavours in total. Most of the flavours are quite pleasant when mixed as per instructions however some can be quite sweet, so it might be beneficial to mix the powder with some extra water or milk.
Gold Standard 100% Whey can be taken at any time during the day, however being a lean protein the recommended timing would be immediately after a training session to assist the body in the recovery process, or 45-30 minutes pre-workout to provide the body with a high quality energy source for the session.
*Due to the mix of fast and slower digesting proteins it can also be taken throughout the day to increase protein intake as part of a snack or light meal replacement, however it is important to remember that it was not designed as a meal replacement.
